Rudy Love Jr. and WAVE
The town of Wichita would look wildly different without the contributions of two venue owners and promoters named Adam and Jessie Hartke. Their work has imbued Wichita with a verve and vibrance that has permanently altered the town and musicians that call the two family.
Today’s episode is a story of two prolific songwriters from the literal and metaphorical heart of America, both by the name of Rudy Love.
Rudy Love Sr. was on tour with Little Richard at 18, a prelude to his masterful future work with Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, and The Temptations. Rudy Sr. called the town of Wichita, Kansas home until his passing this past October, leaving his son, Rudy Love Jr. to take over the family legacy.
A brilliant songwriter in his own regard, Rudy Jr. has shared the stage with Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, and the band Kansas among many others. But more than anything, the two Rudys’ dedication to Wichita and passion for developing its music community is felt in every corner of the city. This very presence once led the younger of the two to the doorstep of a community organizer and concert promoter by the name of Adam Hartke. The rest of the story is best left for them to tell.
Celebrating the spirit of independence, 'Independent Venue Speak' dives into the spaces where culture is created. Hosted by a different guest artist each month, this podcast focuses on how one specific venue has shaped the narrative in their music community.
'Independent Venue Speak' is produced by Marauder in partnership with See Tickets.
